Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Shrewsbury Technical High School class of 1957

This picture was taken in 1962 near the rear steps of the Shrewsbury Technical High School in Shrewsbury, Shropshire UK. These are members of form 5 1961-62 and most were founders of the school, formed in 1957. People in this photograph were either originals of class H1 from 1957 or those who joined later. A parallel class H1A also existed and both shared the site with the Shrewsbury Technical College until it moved to a new purpose-built site at London Road. The school later changed its name to The Wakeman.

Jenny Birch retired back to Shropshire in 2007 and three of the original class came together when she made contact on Friends Reunited with Sheila and John Hunter in 2008. Jenny adds: “We met at 11am on the first Saturday in 2009 at “The Abbey”, which didn’t open until 12pm, so we moved on to The Lord Hill. From that first meeting Sheila and John used their contacts to get in touch with more of the class of ’57 and eventually I believe we have contacted at least 20 out of the original 30.”

“January 2019 marked 10 years since that first reunion and it was gratifying to see nine members come together for coffee on the first Saturday of the year.”

There are regular meetings for anyone interested – but please register an interest via the contact email address below. An annual reunion dinner is held each autumn in Shrewsbury. Registration and details via Keith Winter.
